Repurpose your content – it’s not cheating!

Please, please, please repurpose your content.

Constantly creating new and engaging content is one of the biggest things people struggle with. When you do have to create new content it doesn’t have to take all day.

For example, if you enjoy creating a weekly blog then break it down to create social media captions and add bits to your newsletter. Or if you prefer videos then transcribe them and use them for captions and create a blog post and use parts for a newsletter. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So why should you repurpose content?

It’s ok to repurpose your content, it strengthens your message and provides clarity. Plus, finding new ways to recycle your existing content is a really smart way to work, especially if you’re short on time or if it didn’t get the attention it deserved.

It’s not cheating.

When dusting off forgotten tales make sure you check it, refresh it and maybe change the title or image if it has one. You could reformat your content, and perhaps create a video, infographic, captions or blog post from it.

Repurposing this means that all of the time and energy you used to create it in the first place hasn’t been wasted.

How to repurpose your content:

  1. Make a plan – This will help the flow and when it comes to key dates, launches and promotions for your products or services.

  2. Weekly theme – Choose a theme relating to your business and key dates

  3. Make time to create content – Have fun and get creative weekly or monthly

  4. Do one thing – If you like videos then transcribe it and use as a blog and captions. Or if you prefer a blog turn it into captions and a newsletter.

  5. Variety – Share a variety of formats and content

How to write content when you just can’t?

There might be lots of reasons why.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Homeschooling, you don’t get a quiet moment to sit and think, someone’s passed away, you’re bogged down with other work or maybe you just don’t want to do it right now.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve experienced all of these, which is why I have a plan and a structure for when these things happen.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I create content in advance and this is where repurposing is such a great option. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It sounds simple enough. So obvious. And it is.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ You might be feeling really overwhelmed with life. BUT if you still want to try and be visible for your business then here’s what you can do to create some in advance…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 1. Give yourself some time and space to create content. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 2. Decide on some interesting or useful topics and themes relating to your business.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 3. Repurpose content⠀⠀ 4. Get writing!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ If you’re feeling uninspired you could do some research, brainstorm, read some articles, and reviews, listen to a podcast or have a chat with someone.

Worried that you didn’t get much engagement the first time so why repurpose it again?

I totally get this, but, just because something didn’t do well the first time doesn’t mean it won’t do well in future. When you repurpose content the idea is not to simply copy and paste but refresh what you’ve already written and if you can present it in a new way, even better!

You matter. Your work and words matter too.

If you mainly post on Instagram (for example) then the algorithm can be really disheartening but don’t let it slowly drain your mojo. Even if you don’t believe success comes from vanity metrics. Don’t worry if engagement is lower and your reach is poor. Take this opportunity to create blogs, grow your email list and newsletters.

Review and reflect. Get curious and explore. Experiment and have fun.
